Curtis Mohrhardt

Furniture designer and maker. Avid reader of philosophy, obsessor of Japanese woodworking hand tools, writer of disorganized personal journals, and greatly enjoys walrus-esque moustaches. Curtis is currently depleting all his energy developing and executing his Capstone project at Sheridan college in their furniture design program.

Through philosophy, researching and material testing Curtis' Capstone goal aims to produce the Windsor chair's ideal. The philosophy of the ideal encompasses the belief that humanities greatest qualities, to be admired and striven for, are present within each person. It could be someone that is admired, a quality within them or in how they act or as simple as a sculptor impressing his ideal of beauty, of the human form, into stone. His fascination for Windsor chairs started with their elegance and complexity. From there he was drawn to want to research their history, tradition and construction. Together, philosophy and the Windsor tradition, Curtis will focus on designing and fabricating a chair that any Windsor would regard as something to aspire to.
